Web 2.0, Monday 6th November 2006

Exciting things are happening with the web. It is rapidly evolving and social network websites are growing fast transforming itself from a static platform, hosting webpages, to a vibrant interactive tool delivering up-to-date content via RSS feeds, podcasts, weblogs and a wide variety of streaming media. Collaborative projects like Wikipedia are letting people contribute and share information in previously unavailable ways.

Underpinning this growth has been the rise in broadband connection speeds. 40.9% of telephone lines in Somerset have now converted to broadband - well above the national and regional averages.

The purpose of the Conference was to put 'Web 2.0' into context and understand its potential for us all. Is it all marketing hype or does it represent profound change? What are the implications of Web 2.0 for our businesses and communities? What does this mean for our websites and online published content?

Five keynote speakers from BBC Bristol, the University of Bristol, web designers Headscape, and award-winning production company Rubberductions explained the difference that Web 2.0 is already making.  These video clips and gallery of images will enable you to rewind the conference at your leisure and enjoy the keynote speakers presentations again.

The seminar took place in the inspiring theatre of the Tacchi Morris Arts Centre in Taunton on the 6th November 2006.  136 web developers, designers, academics and local businesses attended on the night and the Tacchi-Morris team provided a delicious, locally sourced, buffet for all the delegates. A huge thank you to Nikki, Mel and Martin at  www.tacchi-morris.com  for all their kind support and help on the night and for Gareth at Conferex for supplying the 6500 lumen projector to fill the 65 square metre screen!
